Last night after doing a walk through with my buyers they gave me the perfect gift, "The Man Who Planted Trees" by Jean Giono.
This story is so compelling, so real, so beautifully written that readers often think it is true. The wood carving illustrations by Michael McCurdy add a deep sense of reverence and intrigue.
I often wonder what our world would be like if we humans really had a deep understanding of our total dependence upon vegetation. I suspect if we had even an inclination about the real value of trees it would change everything about how we perceive the value of trees when we are selling homes.
Trees clean the air in our neighborhoods Trees provide shelter for wildlife. Trees provide shade to help cool our hot homes. Trees help us retain water so that we do not have excessive flooding. Trees protect our homes from the harsh winds of the winter.
My wife once had a person tell her he cut down his trees so that he would not have to rake. What a shame. There are necessary times to cut a tree down, the most pressing when we are trying to stop disease, but the benefits of trees are so significant we should all be trying our best to save trees and plant trees.
My dear friends please read this wonderful book, "The Man Who Planted Trees," and begin to treasure the trees in your neighborhood, in your city, in your state and around our world.

Paul, nice blog, at our home in the past 5 years we cut down three of the old sick trees and have planted about five new healthy ones.
