Living with wildlife

I've posted about these two twice since they made their first appearance in my backyard in the spring.  I don't see them often, but I'm sure they're never far away.

The mother somehow broke her right rear leg just above the hoof last fall, and we weren't hopeful that she would survive the winter.

She did, though, and these good looking 10 month olds are hers.

Tucson Estates II

Our little community, Tucson Estates 2, is surrounded on three sides by Tucson Mountain Park, which in turn abuts Saguaro National Park (west) to the north.

This corridor of unspoiled desert supports all sorts of wildlife, and we're the happy beneficiaries of Nature's panorama.

I took these two photos (above) this afternoon at 4:30 p.m., just before driving into Tucson Mountain Park to catch the evening's sunset and moonrise.

This is why we love Tucson. Come visit sometime soon!

Hi Mike - Love the twins and glad their mama is okay.  Does she seem gimpy?  Or was the injury (hopefully) not as bad as first supposed?

I'm a sucker for a beautiful sunset shot, so I had to sit and stare at yours for a minute.  I used to live at the beach and spent many a night photographing sunset photos there.  My daughter nicknamed me "Sunset Suzi".  I even climbed up on our roof one time to get a special shot, to her embarrassment!

Wow, these are beautiful.  I understand that hunting is something of a pastime for people, and not to be girly about it, but I simply cannot imagine pulling out a gun and killing these beautiful creatures.  Thanks for sharing this.

Wow your deer look fat and sassy. Ours are thinner. I guess not as much protection around here, spend alot of time running for their lives.

Sherry,

The doe is rather thin, but the young ones are fat and sassy!

Thomas,

Thanks.  See you on your blog.

Wende,

Serendipity!  Merry Christmas!

Heather,

It just depends on your perspective.  I grew up in the rainforest of South America.  If we didn't shoot it, we didn't eat.

Sunset Suzi,

My wife looked at that sunset photo and commented that it looks like water in the background.

Dawn,

Merry Christmas back at 'cha.

Patricia,

Amen to that!

Cara,

There's life again after graduation.  :)

Mike,

I'll be over to your blog to see the photos!

Rob,

Thanks!  Same to you and yours!

David,

Sounds like you live with nature!

Sharon,

Baby deer will do it every time!  :)

Michael,

Venison for Christmas!

Beautiful photos, Mike!  My husband and I absolutely love Tuscon (and most of Arizona, for that matter) and we keep telling ourselves that we'll retire somewhere in Arizona (although we are SEVERAL years away from doing so).  Thanks for posting, it makes me really want to get back over that way!  Happy Holidays!

Wonderful.  I was really worried that she was suffering.

Clearly she's a good mom and I'm glad folks looked out for her.

Mike, we have a set of twins also in our family! The two little guys are one now. I think their mom is also very thankful to have survived the first year. :)

We want photos!

Barbara-Jo,

That's the truth!

It doesn't appear to bother her any more.  We're good friends with the Albertson's produce manager now, though.  :)

Makes me jealous.  I see wild birds, squirrels, raccoons, opossums, rabbits, regular deer, hawks, BUT no mule deer.

Those are good shots of those babies.  I guess I haven't really seen too many, I just noticed their ears appear to be full grown... is that what I see?
