My first blog! (thoughts on my first year in real estate)

By
Real Estate Agent with Max Broock Realtors

As I enter my second year as a real estate professional, I've decided its time to jump on the 'blog wagon'---as if those of you who know me don't get to hear enough of my ranting! If you don't know me, then I promise to do my best to assure future entries contain something useful, amusing, or enlightening.

Though I in no way expected the real estate business to come easy, I have been quite surprised at how much there is to learn if you want to be successful at providing exemplary service to your customers. Can you be a successful agent without providing excellent service? Its obvious that you can. But to stand out, be remembered, and ensure your customers are represented as well as you'd want yourself represented takes an incredible amount of time, knowledge, and dedication. If you have an agent that you strongly feel has done a fantastic job for you, be assured that they worked long and hard to achieve that ability--so make sure you refer them!!

I've been fortunate this year that four customers put their faith in me to assist them in finding a home. Two were close friends of mine, which makes it even more meaningful that they trusted me with such an important decision. I believe in the end I earned that trust---I certainly hope they feel that way! I'm also thankful for the agents at Max Broock and Real Estate One who have been unbelievably generous in sharing helpful information and teaching me the 'right way' to do business.

If there is one prevailing lesson I've taken from this past year, its that every transaction is different, every customer unique, and to listen, listen, listen; you can't figure out what your customer needs and wants if you're blabbing about yourself all the time!

Thanks for listening,

Chris

Chris, Congratulations on both counts, new in r.e. and your first blog. Welcome to Active Rain, there's much to learn for all of here.

You had some wonderful things to say, "exemplary service to your customers" keep up the great attitude, it's  everything. I must tell you after decades in the business I love it now, as much as I did as a younster.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. I must admit that a large part of my motivation for entering the business was that as many of my friend's lives entered the stage of home ownership, I heard horror story after horror story about their home buying experiences. I had the stereotyped preconception in my mind that most Realtors were scamming, shady characters with no concern for their customer. After working with many agents over the past year, I now believe I was wrong; most agents I've encountered aren't shady, they're just lazy and incompetent, with no concern for their customer!!

So if I sound elitist, I don't mean to be; its just that now, seeing that a community like ActiveRain exists in which agents are striving to raise the bar for the entire industry, not just themselves, I feel there is hope for the future of this business. Its been a battle to fight the cynicism and not become jaded by some of the experiences I've had already, but comments from agents like you all really help reinforce the reasons I had for getting into real estate. Again, thanks everyone!
