3 things you need to know about the likely changes to Facebook Pages

Services for Real Estate Pros with Roost

Last week we noticed (along with a lot of other folks) that for a short period of time Facebook had rolled out a significantly updated layout for Pages.  While that update appears to have been accidental or temporary (it was rolled back), it does provide some insight into what could be a likely change to the core structure of Pages.

Assuming this is close to what ends up as the new design, here are the three most important developments you should prepare for.

1) Good news – looks like you’ll be able to switch back and forth between a Page admin and a Page user

This is really helpful functionality because it should mean that you can now show two different personas on one Page….that of the Page or brand, and your personal presence.  The ability to use both personas is probably one of the most frequently asked questions we receive on our Business Page Strategy webinars so we like this upgrade a lot! This will enable folks to bring more personality to their comments, posts, etc.

2) Tabs on pages will now become clickable links on the left hand navigation bar

In our opinion this is a good news, bad news type of thing that you should prepare for.  First of all, the good news is that your great Tabs (e.g. the Roost Real Estate tab) will still work and be prominent/accessible if you want them to be.  They’ll just be on the left side rather than across the top.

But those of you (and we’re one of them) who like to set a default landing tab other than the Wall may lose this ability.  It appeared that way in this release we saw yesterday so while it’s not certain that this is the case, you should certainly expect it as a possibility.

3) It appears that there will be a “Questions” feature available on Pages

This should make for a nice engagement opportunity depending on how it works.  Keep an eye out for this as it could provide Page viewers an easy way to reach out and interact with us!

Again, these changes appear to have been rolled back so it’s unclear if they are the actual final layouts that we’ll experience.  Nor do we know exactly when to expect them.  But given the stage of the development, we’re guessing this is not going to be far off from the actual end result.

We’ll keep an eye out and continue to try to help you stay informed!

I agree with Robert. It does seem like the updates just keep coming. :) But, much like Real Estate, if you're not changing it seems as though you're not moving! :)

Thanks for the great info. Hopefully this will help ease the transition when it's time.

I hear you Robert. The good news in this case is that the change hasn't happened yet.  So with luck we have some time to prepare.  I think the ability to switch back and forth as Page admin and actual User is going to be really helpful so that's a good one.
