I have a new Grandson. He is now, six and one half months old. My Daughter has gone back to work and I am the caregiver for those days that she doesn't work from home.
It's been a long time, since my children were babies. I can share with you that so many things have changed.
The car seats that they have now, can be better for you than going to the gym! They are really heavy and are designed, so that, you can transform the carseat, into an instant stroller. Helping my Daughter negotiate all of these baby tools, has been interesting! We had Bobby Mac's and thought they were work. Nothing compared to what these young parents deal with today. You cannot even find a regular baby carriage. You can purchase a baby pram, but, just not the same. Walkers are not allowed, neither is baby powder. The drop side cribs are now, not safe. There are no playpens sold. They now offer portable cribs. These cribs look like playpens, but are half the size.
My Daughter has her GrandMother's rocking chair. I do remember those days and nights when I rocked my babies. With my Grandson, we read a book, while we rock. He always looks at the pages and listens to the stories. Sometimes, he falls asleep before the end of the book. During the fall months, he would look out the window in his room, which overlooks a wooded backyard. He loved to watch those leaves moving in the wind. As the leaves began to fall to the ground, he couldn's take his eyes away from that window. It was good entertainment for him. Peaceful for me. Every once in awhile, he looks out the window, just to see if anything is moving in the backyard. I can't wait until we have a good snowfall. He will love it!
Taking the time, to notice and enjoy the simple pleasures of nature, is not something I would do, if not for this baby. I am amazed at his attention span, for these things, at such a young age.
The baby sleeps and eats well. He started to stand, when he was about five months old. He loves to look around and see what is going on. If someone visits, he doesn't take his eyes off that person. He offers them his full attention. Something we can all work on. He reaches for things and grabs on to them when he can. Some things are not allowed, so he has heard, no no. Not sure if he knows the meaning of that yet, but, we are working on it. Do you grab on to things and still want more, when it's a no?
He only cries when he is hungry, tired or has a wet diaper. His eyes are beautiful and open to all that he can take in, every day. Did I mention, he loves mirrors? It's fun to watch him, watch himself.
We sing songs, all afternoon. I have had to learn some of those nursery rhymes. This baby brings joy and laughter to us. He tries to sing along, in baby talk:)
Doesn't this sound like the perfect way to spend a day? I have learned that life is so precious and time spent with loved ones, is just, the best!
Simple pleasures that light up your day.
