The Four Basic Elements of SEO Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is simple, really (understand it's not necessarily easy or quick, however). There really are only four basic elements of SEO for your real estate website that you need to know. They are:
- Backlinks
- Good, engaging and informative content
- Title keywords germane to your website and SEO
- A search-engine-friendly site.
Backlinks: Links from other sites back to your site (backlinks) are critical to your SEO success. The more links, all the better. But you need "good" links, which are those that come from sites that search engines trust. What are these sites? Article directories (such as GoArticles.com, EzineArticles.com and many others), blogs with a good number of followers, and Web directories such as SiteBeSeen and HotFrog.
Getting these links will require some work, most of it sitting down and writing articles and then submitting them to the article directories. You'll provide a link to your site in the article's "resource box" at the bottom. Get listed in your city's chamber directory, even your local paper's online directory. Write a blog post at least two times a week and then offer to write posts on area blogs of interest to you and your potential home buyers and sellers. Most blogs allows guest writers to post a link to their site at the beginning or end of the guest post.
Content: Don't neglect your keywords, but don't forget that people will be reading your website's pages. Give them good information they can apply (how to ready their home for sale, how to buy a repo, news about the job market in your area, etc.) Give them news they really can use.
Title Keywords: Place relevant keywords in the title of each of your pages because search engine crawlers "look" at your pages' titles in order to figure out what your site is about.
A Site Friendly to Search Engines: Got Flash? JavaScript navigation? Get rid of them. Or, at the very least, keep them to a bare minimum. Bells and whistles such as these just slow the crawlers.
