Paying it forward ~ Sending Christmas Cards

Christmas CardsOne idea I had for paying it forward, that I finally did, sending cards to the local nursing home. I often wonder how many residents there are who have no visitors or mail?

I love to send cards, especially handmade cards, to friends, family & clients. Who doesn’t like getting mail that’s not a bill or junk mail? Why not send them as “Random Acts of Kindness”? When I was a child we called them, “because” gifts and cards, which stood for “just because I love you or thought of you, I’m sending a card or small gift. Mom used to belong to a secret pals group at church, they would send cards on a regular basis with the signature “Secret Pal” and that’s how I signed my cards to the nursing home.

I also sent a few to “A Recovering American Soldier” c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center. You can too, here is the address: 6900 Georgia Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20307-5001   You can also look up the address to the nursing home near you.

Maybe my cards will make a difference, however small.

What other places can we send cards and make a difference?

That was a great idea.  I didn't think of the nursing home for Christmas cards, thanks for the idea.  Good Job!

You just gave me an idea - there's a halfway house (drug/alcohol rehab) and the state mental institution nearby...

As a child girl scout we would always visit the nursing homes at Christmas. They enjoyed it so much. I imagine the cards would be a big hit, but a visit would mean even more.

Great idea on the nursing home.    Just an FYI the card to the Recovering Solider at Walter Reed will go into a dead letter file.  That is a internet rumor that is not true.

Hi Diane...that was such a thoughtful thing to do and you don't know how many people you have touched with your kind act.  You may have brightened someones day on a rather quiet and lonely day.  Blessings to you and Merry Christmas!

Diane, Sending cards to unknown people does make a difference. It puts love out there for others when it may appear no one cares. It tells them ….someone cares. It will warm hearts and bring smiles.
