Forgive me Rainers, for I have...

FORGOTTEN!  I get the limitations on posting and commenting.  I get the 10 words, the 50 words, the 10/day, and the 10/week.  I also get the posting to five groups only.  HOWEVER...

I see posts in many more groups than five and don't understand how this happens.  Not everything I have to say is worth more than a group or two, but occasionally I experience INCREDIBLE MENTAL CLARITY (please see my earlier post if you want to get that joke) that I'd like to share with a broader audience.

How, Oh Wise Ones, can this be accomplished?

 I bow to you.....

Ah...hahhh.  Thanks, Maureen.  So now I feel silly asking the question because I thought that posting to more groups DID expose your message to more readers.  Typically I'm perfectly happy with 5 or fewer....but sometimes the message has broader application.  Know what I mean?

An, an auxiliary question, if this is allowed:  How do we get the attention of the AR administrators?

Just asking....from DC!

AR administrators as in Caleb, Jonathan, Matt? Each has a profile with a "contact me"

AR administrators as in the people who ought to know if there is content on the site that breaks civil rights laws (fair housing), may be considered anti-trust, or something really nasty (nastier than plagiarism, nastier than cut and paste... really, really nasty stuff, the you'll know it when you see it kinda stuff that end up on lots of legitimate blogs occasionlly?)   If you want to get the attention of ActiveRain quick there is Contact ActiveRain on the bottom right corner of every page.  Or for the common garden variety cut and paste, non original content, plagiarism... there is  flagging posts... flagging posts is the slow method of getting ActiveRain's attention it often seems to take about 7 to 10 days, in which time depending on the post they may have reached a lot of people.

Or AR adminsitrators as in the moderators?  The people who feature the posts?  Some are known, others are anonymous.  There is a post or two you may find via SEARCH about who were the original moderators.  I am not sure if they still are the moderators.

Thanks, Maureen....I was thinking for help, not for complaints.  So who are Caleb, Jonathan, Matt?  Can you tell I'm a REAL newbie when it comes to understanding AR intricacies.

Cheers! from DC...

Ohhhhh with 47,572 members Jonathan, Matt, Caleb, Ben, Lydia, etc.  are not whom you reach out to for help.   AcitveRain and all of Web 2.0 is kind of help yourself... and use the resources around you (Search, Groups, Associations, Subcriptions on ActiveRain)  to help yourself.

Matt Heaton, Caleb Mardini  and Jonthan Washburn  are sometimes referred to as the Rain gods, or ActiveRain gods.  They each have a profile.  There is an official ActiveRain blog too... that's the one that told us yesterday that things are /were sloooooow.

Lydia Heaton has a profile too. Ben Wisely is the programmer.   Ben has help now Cory(?)

Colleen K. who I know is still a moderator writes helpful posts that are often featured. Read the stuff that is in the Newbies group that is designed to help newbies.  Follow the instructions in each group you post to, to make sure you are posting things that belong. Some of the well moderated groups are just deleting the content that does not belong, with "no apologies" anymore.

IMHO the best way to get "help" on ActiveRain is to read the good stuff thats on ActiveRain and write good posts without worrying about points.

Thanks, Adam.  I need all the help I can get.  There's so much to read on AR, even when I try to focus on the Newbie stuff.  I still have a husband, three children, a full time job, my volunteer work, and my part time staging business.  Ain't 'nuf hours in the DAY!  I appreciate you stopping in to help me.

Cheers! from DC...

Try saving to a 6th (or more) group (s) Jaynee it will not work.  Use on further down in your  list (it will only save to the top five.) If you try to save to more than 5 groups you get the message;

"You can only post to 5 groups. The first 5 were saved, the rest were ignored." It would be interesting if Adam can post to more than 5 groups at a time. You can change which groups you post to but you can't post to more than 5 groups at a time.

I know what you are saying there are some people who have their blogs in about all of the categories I don't know how they accomplish this.

I just wrote a comment here and was thinking if you post in the fabulous 5 do you really need to post anywhere else?

Thanks, Maureen.  In the beginning I only posted to one or two groups.  Then I wrote something that I thought had broader appeal, so I tried to post in more.  I got that message you quote, which is how I knew to go back to five.  I'm totally fine with that.

My question is spurred by seeing other posts (that don't seem new, don't seem different at all) in more areas.  I don't mean to sound greedy, and sure don't want to be greedy.  Just that sometimes my posts relate to staging, sometimes they relate to staging, and real estate, and comedy, and my local areas, and business development, for example.  I think I just need to keep the post focused, and be happy with a few groups.  Heck....I'm NEW.  What do I have to say that so many people will want to read anyway!  LOL!!

Cheers! from DC...

Hi Jaynee, I'm not sure myself if they are old posts that are coming up but I too know you're allowed to post into five groups.  My question is, are you allowed to change groups?  I don't know if that can be done...or should be done if you feel a bigger range of readers would benefit from your posts.

My experience, Carole, is that one may change groups.  For example, I had one of my posts initially appearing in five groups, one of which was AR Comedy Club.  I had my typical ironic sarcasm woven through the message, and I expected to have humorous comments follow.  My subject matter, however, attracted VERY SERIOUS VERY BUSINESS LIKE PEOPLE WHO SEEMED TO NOT NOTICE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE CORE ISSUE.  Okay.  So, when I had an opportunity to edit the post with new information I had received, I kept the post in four of the five groups, but UNSELECTED it for the comedy club, choosing a more germane group in it's stead.  The change held.  Others in the AR Comedy Club may have wondered where it went, or if it had been deleted (probably neither), but it vanished from that horizon when I updated.

I wonder a few things:

   1.  Do others post their blogs in five groups, then immediately or subsequently go back and post to another five, and then another?  I inadvertently did something similar, and the second post went through, BUT I did not receive the 200 posting points.

   2.  Do others post their blogs in five groups, then make slight edits and post in another five?

   3.  Do others know stuff we don't know?

My vote:  #1.

By the way, I grew up in Huntington (Lloyd Neck to be specific, and Lloyd Harbor Elementary, and then to Cold Spring Harbor).

Cheers from (Horse Neck Path years ago, and now) DC...

Jaynee, lots of good questions.  I am new to Active Rain myself and am trying to figure this point system as much as you are.  I don't understand why we can only be posted on 5 groups, why we are limited so if our topic expands more than those 5 groups.  And second, I think there should be more groups.  Is there a way to create new groups?  Or is that just for administrators? Help!

Hey, Thavisak Lucky Syphanthong.....wow!  Can ya give us a nickname?

You can start a new group any time, I believe.  Before you do this, I'd make sure you search through the full list of groups rather than just the first page of the most populace.  I suggest to you that reading about the birth of each group (that might be similar to the one you'd like to create) would be helpful.  You'll notice that most are fairly young.  In fact, AR really ain't that old itself!

Try joining the AR Newbies if you haven't already....good stuff therein!

Welcome! and Cheers! from DC...

Don't know how many of you are monitoring this for the (drumroll, please..........badabadabadabadabadabadabadabadaaaaaaaaaa) official response, but for those intrepid spirits that have hung on, HERE IT IS!  Directly from the mouths (fingers, really) the AR Gods, behold, for they typeth:

You are most likely seeing blog posts that had points removed because of repetition. You can post to more than 5 groups by going to the group and posting directly to the group.

Well, OF COURSE, that makes perfect sense.  Why didn't any of you people think of this?  MAN!!! <mutter mutter mutter>.....NEWbies!

Cheers! from DC....
