I couldn't help but feel grinchy this past weekend while I was hosting a bank owned open house. Well, first of all I felt bad for the previous owners that left the property in less than happy terms, and I hoped that they had gotten an opportunity to re-build their lives and get a fresh start. Then I had a neighbor stop by with his daughter. He had just closed escrow on the short sale across the street and wanted to see the interior of mine. His daughter was about eight years old and she had more questions about the house than the father. We'll call her Cindy Lou for story telling purposes...

"Why is the carpet and walls so dirty," Cindy Lou asked her father.
I turned to her father and said, "The property is bank owned and is being sold as is."
He turned to me, "Oh, I see they even took the ceiling fans."
Cindy looked up at us and asked, "What's bank owned?"
At that point her father reached down and held her hand as he addressed me, "she doesn't have to know what that means... she won't understand that until she's older."
I continued to show them the rest of the house and then they were on their way. After they left I couldn't help but think about Cindy Lou and what her father had said. If Cindy Lou only knew that even as adults bank owned properties are hard to understand...
The Property I held open was 461 Whitby Gln, Escondido Ca. 92027. Find it on the map and give me a call if you have any questions.
