My movies!

This past week my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the Will Ferrel film "Stranger Than Fiction". This is a Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich)  style movie (though not by Kaufman) about an IRS auditor who believes his life is being narrated by a novelist. While there was nothing remarkably groundbreaking in the writing of the film, it was nice to see Will Ferrel in a somewhat more serious role. He played the part wonderfully, with a stoicism and quiet humor, only occasionally relying on the intense physical humor he's famous for. I had been a little skeptical before watching the movie, as Kaufman is a favorite of mine and I am leery about imitators. But this is like Kaufman lite, without much of the darkness and sometimes incoherent messages Kaufman is known for.

Out of 5 stars, I give Stranger Than Fiction a solid 4.
