Why should I use ActiveRain?

"So, why should I use ActiveRain?"

why not

I speak with real estate agents and mortgage professionals on a daily basis and it blows me away how many are not on ActiveRain, don't know what it is, have heard about it and been told how important it is at seminars, so they have an account , BUT don't use it and best of all are the ones who "think" their assistant may have one for them, but they are not sure. ..........REALLY?

ActiveRain is not all about exposure on the Internet and optimization; it is about sharing ideas, what is working, what is not, our daily triumphs and struggles, learning from each other and best of all meeting other professionals across the country.

I joined ActiveRain in February of 2010 and in less than a year have:Active Rain, Twitter, and Facebook

  • Closed 3 additional loan transactions brought through Active Rain
  • Referred out 15 mortgage clients in states we are unable to do business
  • Referred out 5 clients to listing agents outside of the state of Michigan
  • Assisted in promoting a 75 listings from local agents
  • Physically met 125 local agents through ActiveRain (yes physically met with)
  • Fed 100s of ActiveRain postings to Twitter and Facebook
  • Been involved in 100s of great conversations
  • Learned more than I could have imagined from MANY agents

For the first year in ActiveRain, I feel I have done well and have now set higher goals for next year.  One main thing I need to point out is that I did not spend my entire day writing blogs and "working" the system.  On average, I spend 25 minutes on ActiveRain 6 days a week.  I do not feel this is a major feat for anyone else to accomplish with a well planned day.  (If you miss 25mins one day make it up throughout the week or the next day)

So for those of you who ask "Why?",  I say:  You do this to improve yourself, your business and to benefit your clients.  The amount of information alone available on ActiveRain is outstanding.  You are doing a disservice to you AND your clients by not participating, even on a small level.  You do not have to be a writer, a computer genius or creative. The world of real estate is interesting, frustrating and even funny  at times, so your daily job will bring you all you need to share, if you so choose.  I do not have to get into the added bonus of optimization and exposure (you don't even need to know what I am talking about here)

I am going to DARE you to create an ActiveRain account, complete your profile and settings.   Then, take just 50 minutes a week (1/3 of my time) and do something!  Post on your blog, read someone else's blog, leave a comment, join a group; just start to do something on ActiveRain and you should quickly learn how it can be an integral part of your daily business.

If you do this and decide you want to learn more on how to properly blog and go further with ActiveRain, myself and many others are here to help you!  This is a true community so just ask for help/advice and you will get a response.

THANK YOU FOR READING MY RANT FOR THE DAY!

Katrina, Active Rain is a very useful tool for all real estate professionals, but some people just can't bring themselves to blog.  I've invited a lot of people to join, but few ever do, and of those, even fewer have blogged.  It's a huge resource for information too.

I have had an AR account for over a year, but didn't start using until about a month ago. I wish I wold have been taking advantage of all the info on the blogs and networking with all the other agent form the beginning.

Katrina, this absolutely kills me.  I have sent invitations to dozens of people in our biz and tried to recruit them, only to have them tell me they will when they get time.  HA!  Time?????  What?  Facebook and Farmville holding you up?  Oh well, their loss.

I think that what they don't know, actually helps us! I don't mind that only 1 out of 10 agents that I talk to actually creates an account. That just means that I can climb in the standings that much faster. It truly is their loss. As Jean said, it must be that darn Farmville that keeps them so busy, or is it Mafia Wars?

Katrina ~ It's the same in the Louisville market. We have nearly 4,000 Realtors in the expanded Greater Louisville area and I was able to make it up to #4 in my City/County in just a couple months. That shows you how few participate on here from my market. I have been slacking and not using my account to it's fullest over the past several weeks, but I'm still here and I understand that, like any other business generating effort we do, participation here is something that requires consistent attention to pay off.

Malcolm, I know the feeling!  I have invited over 100 industry professionals and 24 have joined ActiveRain.   I see it all as one's mental devotion to their work.  I can keep myself busy all day to not have time for this stuff OR I can block out 30mins or so and just take the time and accomplish more in my day.  The real estate industry is always"busy", but with proper time blocking and management one can accomplish many things in one day!

Tommy, I am so glad you have finely made the time to start using your  AR account!  This is a great place for all real estate professionals.  I am sure you will start to see a benefit with your business very soon.

Jean, you are so right!  Thank you for the laugh too.  There are so many people who just wont take the time to do something different no matter how much it will benefit them.  But at that point I guess it is their loss.  Maybe they will find a way to make a few bucks off their Farmville, lol.

Karen, well said.  AR is definitely a place where you see the professionals who are willing to go the extra mile and if some don't participate it is their loss!  The rest of us will happily take the extra exposure.

Chris,  it does get difficult as there is SO much you can do in and with active rain.  I say just tackle a piece at a time and keep building on it.  And I guess all those other agents in Louisville are just missing out; too bad for them.  I struggle from time to time on the constituency side as well, but write a few blogs at a time is helpful for the days I am swamped and can just come back and post it.  Let me know if there is anything I can assist you with; I would be more than happy to share :-)

Lola, thank you for the comment.  I greatly enjoy promoting Grand Rapids as we have a great group of local agents and professionals in our market and are one of the most participation MI markets on AR.

I always enjoy reading your posts and it is a complement to know you enjoyed this post of mine.

Thank you!

Katrina - Sometimes it really does just take time ... for people to get tired of t=what they have been doing and to try something else.  Others ... the idea of blogging is overwhelming ... and in reality the AR system makes it pretty painless ... and with practice!  Thanks for the observations ... and "why not" indeed!
