It's that time of the yearonce again where the cold and wintry Kamloops weather wakes you up in the morning. As you look outside and gaze at the beautiful snow covering the houses and the roads, you can't help but redirect your attention from getting ready for work to getting ready to hit the slopes! There's nothing like breathing in the fresh air and getting your adrenaline fix for the day. But before you put on your gear and take on that white powder, it's best to prepare your body for a tough workout.
Even if you are an athlete or one who exercises on a regular basis, you still have to physically prepare yourself for skiing. If you are planning to hit the slopes on a weekly basis, go to the gym or work out at home once or twice a week. You can also try cycling and yoga to strengthen your legs and knees. Check out your local gym or community center and try a spin class. If you're the type who likes to exercise outdoors, go for a brisk run or walk. Another way to prepare is to take a ski class or two. The idea is to help build up your strength and endurance, and to get you back into the swing of things.
Not only should you prepare yourself physically, but it's advisable to also have your gear in check. Make sure you have the right clothing to keep you nice and toasty while you're out there in the snow. Your skis should also be checked for rust and the edges sharpened if needed. As for wax, replace the summer wax coat with a cold wax instead.
Take into account these simple tips and you'll be hitting the slopes in no time!
