Jessica,
I must disagree with you based on the more global nature of today's environment. I have a cell phone number with an area code that is a thousand miles away from where I live. I've kept the old number because I've had it for almost 15 years, and every last one of my contacts knows me by that telephone number. If I was to change it, I would certainly loose a percentage of my contact list.
Once in a while I have had someone contact me and comment that they didn't recognize the area code as something local, but if I've called them back quickly, and provide them with great service, not one of them has made an issue of the out of state area code.
With such a mobile population these days, and the variety of techology ooptions available to everyone, I just don't think an area code carries the negative connotation that you described. The only time it could be an issue is if I didn't return messages or calls on a timely basis.
Before ending this comment, let me compliment you on using video for your post. Eventually, we will all be using video, so you are ahead of the curve. But . . . recording while driving might be a little on the dangerous side.

Jessica-I would not go as far as to say it is "unprofessional" to have an out of area number. Perhaps as Bruce says someone has had their number for a long time and keeping the number is easier than switching it to a new one. Professionalism runs far deeper than a phone number and I'd not be to quick to judge someones ability to be a competent Realtor® in Wilmington based on their phone number.
