For all those that have pets that have "hotspots" or as my dog was diagnosed with Acral Lick Dermatitis,I am highly recommending this type of doggy cone/collar that was suggested by my vet called the Soft-E-Collar®. There are a few, and can't say anything but the one pictured here.
My dog has always had allergies, and she usually needs to go on a round of meds in the spring and fall, but this past year with some arthritis setting in as well as her always being a bit neurotic, she developed this issue.
When the vet told me that my baby (now 13) needed to wear a cone for 6 weeks until her licking sores healed, I said there was NO way that I would put that stupid plastic "cone" that she had to wear once before back on her, as it was horrible to watch her bump into things.
The vet assured me that they have a new type of "cone" that my pet wouldn't mind at all and described it as a "pillow"..."well ok..sure I thought..pillow my..."
Here is a picture of Shadow wearing what I call her snowflake. I will say that she actually doesn't mind this at all and it IS like a pillow for her. Unlike the other plastic cone one, her face is exposed and her vision clear and she can eat and lay with ease.
I actually think she sorta likes it now as she barrels through the rooms not worrying about anything. I take it off for her walks and after taking her leash off she goes over to her snowflake as if asking to have it put back on. Ok..so it also could be the Prozac that she's on as well..lol.
If you have a pet that needs to wear one of these things, spend the extra money and get this type. I can tell you, it is as much less stress on my dog as it is for me. This collar called the Soft-E-Collar® set me back $44 smackers, but to me, a well worth it thing if she has to wear it for 6 weeks.
Here is a picture of her with the cone that she left the vets office in the first time...NOT a good thing at all and you can tell she was really bummed having to wear this.
