My Mission Valley real estate farm has 39 condominium communities, and many of those on the western edge of the Valley have been hit hard by the rain and the floords. The San Diego River — one national news service said that the "creek" had overflowed its banks — runs through the center of Mission Valley, and when it rains like it has for the past five days, it will flood. Not might. Will. We're okay out here in La Mesa even though we've had 6.67 inches of rain, coming up rapidly on the December record of 7.07 inches set in 1943. Out in Highland, California, where my mom lives, a mudslide destroyed over thirty homes and displaces hundreds of people for Christmas. Following are some pictures from Mission Valley. The first picture shows the street in front of Rio Del Oro, where I lived from 1988-1994. The following picture shows Camino de la Siesta in front of the Lincoln dealership. Many condominium owners will park cars on this street, two of which didn't make it out in time: ♪♫♫♫♪ If you're looking for a great real estate agent in San Diego, well, I'm available 24/7, so feel free to contact me by phone or email. Rain, rain go away....
Thanks for all the emails! We're okay!
The next picture shows the San Diego River flooding Mission Center Road, a major north/south street though Mission Valley. North/south streets are the ones that get flooded first, and the most.
A lot of people from the condominium communities go out and watch the river:
However, those people aren't really watching the water. They are watching this:
The story is that the car was originally parked on the street a little further up, but as the waters rose, they picked this small car up and carried it away. The owner woke up yesterday morning to find the street flooded and his car nowhere to be seen until he reported it to the police and they told him they thought they knew where his car was. The only thing holding the car there is that guardrail, which is actually much bigger than in the picture.
And one last picture that also has a story to go with it:
There was a person who drove that car into the water and had to be rescued by a Swift Water Rescue Team. Apparently he told them and police that he didn't see the "road closed" barricades, so he drove around them. Run that by me again.
let me Google one for you.

I am so sorry for you guys what a mess, hope it dries up soon. Be careful.
Jim - That is scary!! I have been watching the weather, and you have been hit very hard in the area. I also know that in many instances what happens west, winds up coming east! At some point (maybe Sunday) we will be getting this horrible mess. Not sure if it will be rain or snow. If it is snow, they are talking a foot. Ugggggh.
Jim - I was listening to a news report this morning that said the only place in Southern California with difficulties was Laguna Beach - So either San Diego is in Hyper-Southern California, or this little wetness you are showing is not a "difficulty!" I'm glad to hear that you folks are OK, but I'm sure that you'll be involved in the clean up! Hopefully, you will still be able to find some joy in the holidays!
Jim, so glad to hear that you're ok. I hope your neighboring areas see a quick receding of the flood waters. What a bad time of year to suffer like this. :(
Take care,
Fantastic photos, Jim. Glad to hear you guys are okay; hope it dries up soon. It is such a mess.
Hi Jim! Glad to know that you guys are okay! Stay warm and dry this holiday weekend and I'll be praying for sunshine for you tomorrow!
