Last Minute Frenzy

By

Decorated Christmas TreeWhile wrapping the stocking stuffers and presents I bought yesterday I had to acknowledge - I was deep in the throes of "last minute frenzy' as I shopped yesterday.

I'll make the assumption that my family won't have time to read my blog today and list some of the tell-tale purchases:

  • A Barack Obama action figure
  • Sticky arrows (like the "sign here" ones we use on P & Ss) that say "F* this", "F* that", etc (spelled out of course)
  • Mammoth bags of kitty litter

The first two are stocking stuffers and while I'm not convinced I would have bought them a month ago they do tickle my funny bone - which is in large part the point of the mammoth stockings we do each year.  We're all adults - still getting stockings - so no need to keep things clean for little kids

Kitty litter though?

In my family we make lists so we get what we want.

Sure enough one of my brothers put kitty litter on his list (budgets are tight and keeping two cats in litter adds up). Chalk it up to last minute frenzy that I didn't think twice about it and suggested it as an idea for my other brother when he happened to call while I was at the pet store.

As luck would have it, second brother's kitty litter brand was only carried by another store two towns away.  Again - only the desperation of December 23rd explains why I never flinched as I sat in traffic on my kitty litter quest.

It was only as I wrapped it up last night that the oddity of putting kitty litter under the tree finally sunk in.  Chalk it up to the desperation of the final days of Christmas shopping. I'm out the door for my final laps so who knows what will end up under the tree later today.

Merry Christmas!!

Liz, your tree looks awesome! We quit giving gifts to each other years ago, but I think kitty litter is a very thoughtful gift.  :-)  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you too!

Kitty Litter? Hmm..I never thought of that one. Maybe I should have had it on my list. My daughter did mention that she "forgets" to get her cat something for Christmas every year.

Liz - Beautiful Christmas Tree and it's probably the first time kitty litter has been under it.  I rather get things I need then things that will most likely end up in my garage sale pile.  Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas Liz. The kitty litter will give you something to smile about for years to come. It really is the oddest wrapped gift I've heard of to date!:-)

Thinking back I think probably the oddest gift I ever made was electric toothbrushes to my at the time quite young sons. (The eldest was 13 at the time). What's even odder is that they loved them!!

Hi Lori ~ I love my tree this year - I bought it at a place where they advertise "Bushy Trees" with a big sign, I love that - it's such a good tagline.

Hi Keisha ~ I did feel bad too that I didn't get my Champ a special present.  I tend to pop a cat toy or two into the Christmas stocking since everyone in my family has cat[s]. If I'm not careful Champ will find it in the stocking and away he goes with it.

Hi Michelle ~ Isn't that the truth?  Our solution for all the mindless fluff we give and get - we're going to recycle.  Our memories are bad enough that you can give it again the next year - even to the same person - who can remember?!

Hi Lottie - I confess to loving my tree this year - the photo doesn't do it justice. I've collected ornaments since I was a kid and inheirited a lot too. Last year I was slow to take down the tree and it fell over (or was pushed / pulled by the cat. It was  a disaster but it's been my excuse for buying lots of ornaments this year.

Hi Denise ~ I just love that the electric toothbrushes were a big hit.  My Dustbuster from years ago remains one of my best presents in terms of how much I've appreciated it over the years.

Merry Christmas to all!  Have a wonderful holiday.
