Holiday Movie Trivia!

Miracle on 34th Street-Did you know this movie was originally released in May?  It became an Academy award winner, in spite of the release date.

Miracle on 34th Street was a flop at the box office originally.  Not until TV sets became popular did the film soar!

It’s a Wonderful Life-The original star was to be Cary Grant, not Jimmy Stewart.  Also,  effects departments routinely used corn flakes painted white as snow. However, as actors walked through the "corn snow," the crunching of the flakes was so loud that dialog couldn't be recorded.   A new chemical snow was created for Miracle on 34th Street, blown through a wind machine!

A Christmas Story-The original home of “A Christmas Story” was purchased on EBay by an avid fan for $150,000 in 2005.  The fan then reportedly spent another $500,000 restoring the exterior to look exactly like it did in the movie!  It’s now a museum, with the home next door now being a gift shop.  They auctioned a Christmas stay this year...the winning bid was $3200.  Now that''''s a serious fan! I wonder if they get THAT much business?  Heck, I’d probably buy a souvenir!

Home Alone:  Remember that tarantula scene?   Daniel Stern said they had ONE chance to get the shot with the  tarantula crawling on his face.  (Gee...that’s one more than I would have given them!)  He couldn’t scream and had to pantomime the scream.  Spiders don’t like screaming, lol.  I bet that was one very very quiet fake scream!

Elf:  Remember that 12 second belch by Buddy?  He had just downed a 2 liter bottle of Coke.  That was a real burp, but voiced over by actor Maurice LaMarche.

So there you have it!  Everything you never wanted to know about Holiday Movies but now do!

Love to hear that kind of trivia. In my childhood I saw a lot of movies (in black and white of course). Whenever I see any of these movies today, I can't stay away--gotta watch it to the end to see what I can remember.

I cannot see Cary Grant in that role. That was definitely meant for Jimmy Stewart.

I fancy myself as a bit of a film buff but did not know that about Cary Grant being the original star of "It's a Wonderful Life." He would have been charming, of course and it may have been a completely different movie.

Interesting stuff, Sis!  The spider scene would have been made with a fake spider if I were the actor--no ifs, ands, or BUTS!

Have a great day...
