It's the silly season. If you are not feeling jolly yet, here are some suggestions to help you find a little peace on earth. Beacon Street in December[/caption]

  1. Take a drive to look at the lights. One of my best winter memories come from the drives we took as a family to see the holiday lights. We didn't always drive into Boston to see the amazing display on the Boston Commons. Many times, we drove around the neighborhood to our delight, admiring the neighborhood decor. Talk about simple pleasures!
  2. Go to the movies--but not just any theatre. The Coolidge Corner Theatre is a not-for-profit independent movie theatre. Brookline in the snow Enjoy the cool art deco designed theatre and choose from the eclectic offerings and special events. Worth noting is the great snack bar that offers good chocolate and tea in addition to the standard popcorn. Brownstone Window
  3. Go ice-skating. The Skating Club of Boston, www.scboston.org, is an excellent resource for local skating rinks, activities, and events. In Brookline, Jack Kirrane Skating Rink at Larz Anderson Park is located at 23 Newton Street, Brookline, MA 02467.
  4. Go sledding. Looks like we are going to have snow! Take advantage of some of the hills in Brookline. Try Sledding at Dean Park or at Larz Anderson.
  5. Focus on living in the moment--take a yoga class. There are several yoga studios in Brookline. For one, Yoga in the Village, located at 17 Station Street, is just across from the Brookline Village T Station. Winter Sleigh[/caption]
  6. Take someone you love out for hot chocolate. There are several local coffee shops who promise to deliver a delicious hot cup. Martin's Coffee Shop, 35 Harvard Street, Brookline Village, is a great place to warm up. Cafe Fixe, 1642 Beacon Street, Brookline, receives rave reviews from fans on Yelp. Japonaise Bakery 1020 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446 is not your typical Starbucks.
  7. Visit the new wing at the Museum of Fine Arts. www.MFA.org. Need I say more?
  8. Bring a smile to friends and family with this free musical ecard. "What would the holidays be without a little music?." Choose one of the adorable animated performances to send to as many people as you want via email compliments of the Boston Pops and Fidelity Investments. For every card sent, Fidelity will contribute another $1 toward musical instruments for schools. See www.futurestage.com/ecards.
  9. Attend the Boston Pops. Holiday Pops Performances by the Boston Pops Orchestra.
  10. Check out the December activities at the Brookline Recreation Center. Your child will find delightful full day events!
  11. Experience some local theatre. Visit the Puppet Showplace at 12 Station Street, Brookline, MA. The Puppet Showplace Theatre is a non-profit performing arts organization committed to excellence in puppetry for all ages.
  12. Enjoy a family movie night. Warm up some spiced cider, pop the corn and watch "It's a Wonderful Life" with good old Clarence and the gang. What could be better?

May your fingers and toes stay toasty warm through the winter season!
