I build a new computer for my older brother about 3 weeks ago. The computer was with me two weeks prior and runs fine. For the last week, he has been complaining that his computer reboots about twice a day. The problems seem random because it does not happen at any specific time.
There are a few ways to trace the problem, one would be to write down any error message on the screen and try to google it. Try to remember what was the latest hardware or software that was installed previously when the problem started. Go to Event Viewer and see if there are any errors or warnings around the crashed time. Use a program to read the "dump" files to see what the errors are pointing to.
In my situation, the dump files was pointing to the USB ports, which came from a new USB device that my brother got. The dump files also point to the Google Chrome browser, so I had my brother to stop using that browser and tried Fire Fox to see if that would fix the problem. Hopefully that will. Probably will check for viruses and spyware just in case.
Is there anything else that can help pinpoint the source of crashes or reboots?
