Merry Christmas!
Our Christmas is rolled into tradition after tradition. Yesterday marked the 48th Christmas we have all been together as a family. Out of my 51 years, I’d say we are lucky!
We left Huntsville Wednesday, heading to my Aunt and Uncles house in Beavercreek Ohio, outside of Dayton. A car FULL of happy travelers and packed to the gills with presents. Squeezed in between somewhere, were 2 happy dogs, Lily the Pug, my mom’s fearless leader and Gus the Golden, our favorite guy.
The night after we arrived, we all crammed into my car and set off on our first tradition...finding the BEST Christmas light displays. 3 hours of many “ooh’s and ahhs”, laughter and love in our hearts. Even those that claim to not like this tradition, always seem to be the ones enjoying it the most!
Christmas eve is always the same. Chili and Ham, lots of love, laughter and “remember when’s”. I think this is our favorite night of all. The excitement of being together and waiting for “Santa” is always so wonderful. The kids always get to open their Christmas jammie's. (Though we are down to one teenager, we live vicariously through her). This year, even the grown up gals got matching jammie's! We had so much fun with that event.
Christmas morning we all stumbled about, getting our caffeine fix before opening gifts. My Uncle Richard gets up before the chickens and starts the turkey, no pun intended. Our Christmas dinner was wonderful, as usual.
Christmas evening we have a “dirty Santa” gift exchange. This is always so much fun. Everyone knows I always give lottery tickets...it’s fun to watch them try to figure out how I wrapped them and grab
Christmas is not about the gifts in our family...it’s about the love we all have for each other and creating memories that will be with us, forever.
We are all worn out but feeling so blessed that we were fortunate enough to have yet another Christmas together.
We let Gus have one last romp in the snow before loading up.
Leaving today was difficult, but we all look forward to creating more memories together. I’m looking forward to number 49 next year!
Merry Christmas to all of my Active Rain friends. I hope you all had the chance to enjoy what is most important....time with your loved ones.
