Congratulations to Soccer Fanatic and O'Brien's Pub!

Back when I was in school, a drive through the city found lots of youth playing pickup games of baseball, football, and basketball. That doesn't seem to be the case anymore unless it's an organized league. Soccer seems to be the pickup game of choice in today's world.

And that brings me to Soccer Fanatic and O'Brien's Pub.

Why them?

Well, Soccer Fanatic — which has three locations in San Diego County: San Diego (Murphy Canyon), Solana Beach, and Chula Vista — just won a national competition for best soccer speciality store. The honor was announced by U.S. Soccer.

And if you have soccer, you have to have soccer fans, which brings us to O'Brien's Pub (4646 Convoy Street in Kearny Mesa), which came in second place for best soccer bar. O'Brien's Pub is the home of the San Diego Chapter of the American Outlaws, a national U.S. Soccer Supporters club.
