Short on Space? Keep it Simple.

Home Stager with

If you're short on space, the solution is to keep it simple. This especially bodes well if your home is being put on the market. By "keeping it simple" you create more "visual" real estate.

Here's an example.

This is the living room, while under construction. This particular home was a home we had staged for one of our investors, hence the condition of the room.

Living room under construction

With all the construction material moved out, and just the furniture brought in, here's what the room looked like:

Living room with furniture delivered

Now here's what the room looks like with it completely arranged and accessories added: As you can see, the design was kept simple. In doing so, you also create a cohesive and clutter-free room, which is another key factor when selling.

Living room after home staging

And one of my favorite things to do when taking my after pictures is to capture a close-up. Here's one I had taken of the coffee table.

Floral close-up

Whether selling your home or not, small spaces can pose some challenges for the owner. Keep It Simple and remember these rules:

  • Less is More - Don't bombard the space with furniture.
  • Make it Clutter-Free - Eyes need to rest. Having a clutter-free room will allow the buyer to SEE the room and NOT the stuff in the room.
  • Use Clean Lines - You'll be amazed at just how big a difference it will make.

Kathy ~ what a great example of staging at its best ... room function is defined, space is maximized, and the flow throughout the space is perfect.  The gray and black color palette is very classic!

Your KISS method works wonders for staging and your style is always "contemporary classic".   That's the advantage staging has over the "real world".  I love being able to live vicarously through my staged home that stays clean unlike my real home.

Preparing your property for sale

Hi Kathy, great explaination for those home owners contemplating doing their own staging work. I see more home owners trying this now. However,

I think it still comes down to using a stager with updated furniture and accessories to appeal to todays buyers. You keep on top of the looks that buyers see in the stores and in magazines to bring the whole marketing image together. Beautiful photos finish the job.  Always look forward to your close ups.

Kudos to you for your vision in this home. Great work as always.

Kathy~ I've noticed recently that just adding an area rug to a room design can really ground the room and make it cohesive.
