OK NOW THIS IS WEIRD -

OK NOW THIS IS WEIRD...... So I am on vacation and actually on a ski slope yesterday when an email from my showing service shows me scheduled to show two homes today. One of them was my listing and the other is someone elses. I immediately call the service to say that I had NOT scheduled these showings and how could they have been put in my name without a showing code that is required when making the appointments. To make matters worse, the listing that is mine is my neighbors home and they know I am out of town. I get on the phone with the service and they tell me a new person made the mistake. Supposedly an out of town agent called to make the appointment and since they are not with our local board, the showing service person just scheduled it under my name????? This morning my phone is ringing off the hook and mind you it is two hours earlier for me where I am. The homeowner is confused and calling to see if the showing is legitimate, the showing service is calling and I am CONFUSED to say the least. I get a supervisor on the phone, get the supposed agents name and number. Try to look her up on the Texas Real Estate Commision website and guess what???? No one by that name is a licensed agent in Texas! The phone number I get doesn't work either. Hmmm....why would a person try and schedule a showing without proper credentials? They won't be able to show without a Supra key and code? Just makes me a little cautious. I have told my neighbor and seller to NOT allow anyone to show their home unless they have an appointment and use a Supra key. I will keep you all posted on what happens here but it is more than a bit concerning. Hopefully I can enjoy the rest of my vacation!!!

That is pretty creepy!  Don't let it ruin your ski trip!  Your neighbor/client will understand and be glad that you found out what was going on even on vacation!

Paula, I just did a post about safety yesterday. There are some strange things going on in real estate and we as the front line people need to be cautious and suspicious of anything that seems out of the norm. Be careful and keep us informed how this all works, and above all, try and enjoy the rest of your vacation.

That's scary.  Hopefully this won't happen again and no unlicensed person shows up at the door to show the house.

Paula, It's a good thing you were notified before someone showed up at your listing and you were able to reach your clients! We handle our own showings here, no showing service so there is a little more control. Enjoy the rest of your vacation!

That is creepy indeed.  Especially since you cannot find the agent's name in the state database.  Good job of keeping your seller informed and keeping them safe!  Keep us posted and try to enjoy your vacation!

That is strange indeed! In this day and time, you certainly have to be cautious. I love our showing service and they do a very good job, especially when you are out of town, on an appointment, at church on Sunday mornings, etc. It makes life so much easier, for scheduling and for getting feedback.

Wonder if it is an agent, or even someone, just wanting to see the homes for themselves. In any case, it is strange that they knew enough to call the scheduling company, but not sure how they would get around the showing code, which I know they always ask for.

Keep us posted with what you find out!

Have a Happy New Year

Paula that is a bit scary to me. For one reason, the showing service never should have scheduled the showing and secondly, the so-called agent was obviously up to no good.  Not to be taken lightly.

Hello Paula,

Strange is NOT the word for a situation like this. Unfortunately, I had this experience some time late in May of this year. The worst and most horrifying of it is that according to the MLS show assist system I had electronically schedule to show 7 listings (none were any of my own listings).

I had listing agents calling me to confirm the time I was showing up and wanted to know if I was previewing or would the potential buyer/buyers actually be with me.

Not only was it frustrating- I felt confused and a bit embarassed to say the least. At one point I wondered if I was had lost it for a second and did schedule a showing without recording it on my calendar; since I did have a buyer at the time that was looking for a high rise condo in that geographical area.

While; it may have been somewhat possible to schedule a showing and forget to put it on my calendar; to schedule 7 and not record any and more so forget about them was abnormal and something I would never do.

I never found out why that happened or who may have actually scheduled these showings. One thing's for sure I HOPE IT NEVER HAPPENS AGAIN!

Paula,

Uncanny how the enemy tries to steal your time.  Hopefully this was just a mix-up and is not as suspicious as it looks.  Enjoy your vaca...g
