Conowingo, Maryland is a small town located in the Western portion of Cecil County. Conowingo is most known for the Conowingo Dam. The original town of Conowingo is located under the waters of the reservoir created by the dam in the 1920's. The Conowingo Dam is the largest non federal hydroelectric dams in the United States.
The nearby Conowingo Resivior, and Susquehanna State Park offer many recreational activities; as fishing, camping, bird watching, and hiking. There are many opportunities to spot bald eagles, and other fine birds near the dam regularly.
Other local attractions in the area is the Union Hotel; a fine restaurant in the area which dates back to the 1790's and is a hot spot for bikers and other locale. This restaurant which was once a hotel for travelers of the canal, still holds onto its rich heritage and charm.
Housing is Conowingo, Maryland in Cecil County is diverse. There are still many farms and agricultural contributions, as well as a few recent developments, and one's on the map to be built. Conowingo is the home to RumbleWay farm, which is a local organic farm offering an assortment of organic meats, poultry, pork, and other tasty delights.
