What it took to break the top #100 in California on ActiveRain

Blog PostsWow, now that was a journey!    I started blogging in March of this year. I did a few in 2009, but got discouraged when I recieved only a few comments on the blogs that I wrote. I learned over the last year, that consistency helps create exposure which then creates comments.  I also learned, that the more you comment on other bloggers blogs, the more they will then comment on yours.   So in the last year, 10 or so months, I have posted 224 blogs.

Called Shots on Active RainIn reading other blogs during that time, I have suggested many blogs, and 130 have went on to be be called shots.  I have no idea if this is a good number, as I have nothing to compare it to.  What are your numbers?  Reading blogs has really increased my knowledge and expertise!

Comments on ActiveRainDuring this time frame, I left many comments, and have recieved many in return.  I think blogging grows on you, and gets more fun every day.  I have a good number of subscribers, which I really feel is the GOLD medal, when blogging.  Thanks to you, if you are subscribing to my blog!!!  :)  Commenting daily makes sure that it doesn't become overwhelming.

Rankings on ActiveRainTaking the time to blog every day, comment every day, respond to comments left every day has pushed me to the #100 spot in California.  I thought it would take me till next year sometime, but I set myself the goal to reach it by 2011 and I did it!!!  I hope to be #3 in the County by1st quarter.  The top two are daily bloggers, and 50K above me...

Total points on ActiveRainIn the end, I have achieved a point total of over 172,000.  At first I wanted to get points, points, points...  Now it's the relationships that I have obtained, and the interactions I have with new friends that matters the most.  In addition, it is the reactions that I get when I post blogs, that makes it most rewarding. If you blog consistently, then the points will just come to you!  Don't worry too much about them.

So keep on a' blogging, and lets hear YOUR milestones!!!!

:)

Chris, We're knocking on the door of 200k points (another 1.5 weeks should do it).  We blog daily (or more often).  We started seriously in June of this year.  We're over 300 posts, over 8k in comments received and given, 129 subscribers, 270 called shots.  We've been #1 in our county for quite awhile because of the scarcity of bloggers in our area.  Ohio, we're up to #12 and a couple of more spots are targeted if the ones above us don't do at least the weekly pointed maximums to stay ahead of us.  We've built quite a few relationships, we're just waiting on the business part to kick in! It's been, and will continue to be fun :)

Bill and Liz - You guys ROCK!  I try to max out weekly, but sometimes (well, most of the time) fail to do it.  But I love it, and you guys rock.  At home, my internet is SLOW SLOW SLOW.  Since I am way out in the boon docks, I can't get Cable or DSL...  So it makes it hard to comment at home.

Chris, that's right.  The more we blog, the more exposure and friendship we are going to gain.  Commenting and interaction on Active Rain is fun, and I made many friends in the last 3 months because I have been blogging and commenting consistently, it does make a difference.

You are doing great, and it is all up to us how to make it great for ourselves!

Hmmm ... well Chris, just before RainCamp you crossed the 100,000 threshold ... so it seems that the last months or so have generated many more points, in the same space of time!  It is great to see you on "page 2" of the California leader board ... so on to page ONE!  Great job ... and thanks for sharing not only your achievement, but your attitude as well!

Wow, those are some amazing stats.  Takes a lot to get to 100 in California.  I'm in NY - #31 (not as hard in my state, but still ther ar a lot of huge bloggers in my state, too.

Way to go w/ 130 called shots.  I think that's on the high side from what I've seen.  I'm at 123 (maybe 124 if this one makes it ther).

congrats on your high # of featured posts, subscribers and comments.  That's awesome.

I've only been blogging since July, so I still have some catch up.

Hi Chris! Congrats! I enjoyed very much reading this blog because it is all happening to me as we "write"! In the past couple weeks, I slowly stop keeping track of the points and started enjoying much more reading my AR friends' blogs! The new relationship I have been forming is truly priceless!

Thank you for letting me join your "rain dance"!
