Recycling Your Christmas Trees in Anchorage, Palmer and Wasilla
What to do, what to do!
With your Christmas tree that is-why not recycle? There are plenty of opportunities for your Christmas tree to be made into mulch for paths, landscaping and as a help for erosion for some of our local schools and non profit agencies.
The program does not cost you anything. ALPAR (Alaskans for Little Prevention and Recycling) is teaming up with Carrs, Municipality of Anchorage Solid Waste Services, Anchorgae Daily News, MIX 103.1, KBEAR 104.1 and GCI to offer the free recycling program through January 15th, 2011.
The simple instructions are as follows:
Bring your naked trees, no ornaments, no ribbons, no lights, no bags, no nothing (NAKED!) Christmas trees and...
Drop them off at any Anchorage, Eagle River or Palmer Carrs Stores or at the Mat-Su Central Landfill of 49th State Street in the well marked, well designated area.
If you are in Anchorage and cannot get your Christmas tree to one of the designated spots, Anchorage Boy Scout Troop #268 has graciously offered to pick up trees ready for recycling. Pickup can be arranged by calling the troup at 868-8899. Small donations (large ones too) are greatly appreciated for this service.
Items NOT accepted are artificial trees, wreaths (they have wires) or trees that still have decorations or lights on them.
If this is your first year, your tenth year or if you have been recycling for as long as you can remember, there are a more and more programs to help reduce waste and recycle. We can all start somewhere!

On a slight side note, here is a bit more information as to what recycling options are available to us locally.
ALPAR offers a host of different options for recycling and the Christmas tree program is only one. Some other programs you may have seen around you are:
