Yes, I know we need to look into this past year to reflect on our success and failures but do not dwell on the mistakes. You will learn more from the celebrations of the success that you had and what you did right than the wrongs or mistakes that were made. I am not an authority or scholar of the great writers but there are a few writers and poets that have made great wisdom quotes that I keep in my mind.
One such poet was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and one of his writings has been lodged in my mind for many years. I keep it in my mind to help me through the year and not to dwell on things that I can not control. To make resolutions for the new year is almost a waste of time for most of us because we tend to pile the resolutions on our plate just like too much turkey at the Thanksgiving table. Here is a writing that helps me when I reflect on things that I can not change.
Look not mournfully into the Past.
It comes not back again. Wisely,
improve the Present. It is thine.
Go forth to meet the shadowy Future,
Without fear.......
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1839)
