WHO WANTS TO WATCH A WALLEYE DROP?
In Port Clinton, Ohio it is a big celebration to see a large (not real) Walleye drop from a high point at 12 midnight on New Year's Eve. This is because of Lake Erie and fishing for walleye. In the spring the walleye goes up the Maumee River from Lake Erie and spawns. Huge numbers of fishermen line the banks of the Maumee River or have power boats to navigate up and down the river.
Who wants to watch a possum drop? Many will ask, and have asked this question through the years...but evidently people from all over the land enjoy the New Year's fesivities in Tallapoosa, GA each New Year's Eve.
Each New Year's Eve at the stroke of midnight, Spencer the possum (taxidermy patient) is dropped from the top of the highest building on Head Ave., while the crowd goes wild.
Don't miss it. Be there or be square. It's awesome to watch the possum...drop.
