World Class Kona Sport Fishing, Whale Watching or Snorkling, Kona Sea Adventures is your Kailua Kona (Big Island of Hawaii) Connection!
If world class Kona sport fishing, is on your list of 'to dos' while on the Big Island, you are certainly at the right place. World Class Sport Fishing, Whale Watching and Snorkeling, Kailua Kona Hawaii

Kona Sea Adventures, owned and operated by Captain Ryan Brunner, is an all inclusive, world class charter operation that offers sport fishing, whale watching and snorkeling along the beautiful Kona coast on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Captain Ryan Brunner grew up in the warm, crystal clear blue seas of Kona and has many ohana (family) on the island. Although his experiences include navigating the wild rivers of Illiamna Alaska, guiding at a sport fishing lodge, Kona is home.

Captain Ryan is beyond his years with many talents . He holds his USCG Masters license, is trained in first aid and CPR. He not only knows the how, the when and the where, but he has the local knowedge as a kama'aina (Hawaiian word for native-Hawaiian or long time resident) to let you in on what tourists may otherwise miss in their Kona adventure. His Kona sport fishing charter brings in Ono, Ahi (tuna), Marlin, Mahi Mahi (Durado) to name a few.

Larry and I have had the great opportunity to go out with Kona Sea Adventures a couple times and would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a Kona Adventure! We went snorkeling once and then fishing -where we happened to see humpback whales (we like to say 'our whales' as they live in Alaska part time and we get to see them on our turf in the beautiful Alaskan waters, but people here seem to disagree). In fact, we referred Larry's brother and his new wife out with them for a honeymoon trip. We are still hearing how much fun they had snorkeling and swimming with spinner dolphins. They thought that swimming with the dolphins meant being in a hotel pool with trained dolphins. Little did they know that they would actually be swimming with wild spinner dolphins right next to them! Definitely a memory they will keep for years!

Did you know that Kona Sea Adventures has a shared charter option? One of only a couple of charter boats in the Kona harbor that allow it, if you do not have enough people to fill the boat but still want to go fishing, snorkeling or whale watching, you can share a charter with other folks with the same interests. The motto of Kona Sea Adventures is 'Your wish is our command' and they mean it! Provided in your Kona Sea Adventure is everything you need but your swimsuit and sun screen!

The prices of the boat are simple and do not vary per excursion. So, you can sport fish or snorkel or take the boat whale watching if you would like to. Take a group of friends and go in together to share the cost.
1/2 day is $450
3/4 day is $550
Full day is $650
Shhh, mention Kona Sea Adventures-Ohana (said Oh hah na) and save $25 on your charter!
Larry and I absolutely got more than what we expected on our trips with Captain Ryan. So, until the next time we are still saying Hana Hou! (One more time)!

Whale Watching

The Hawaiian Islands have long been known for their whale sightings. Pilot, false orca, melon headed, pygmy killer, beaked and sperm whales all frequent Kona waters, and on occasion a blue whale has been sighted. During the months of December through March, Kona waters become major breeding grounds for magnificant humpback whales. Our guides and onboard library will help you identify and learn about the acrobatic displays of the humpback whale, such as a blow or spout, roundout, pec slap, head rise, tail slap, lobtail or breach.

Dolphins are part of the same family as whales and porpoises (called cetaceans). The Hawaiian spinner, pantropical spotted, and bottlenose dolphins are all species frequently seen in Kona waters. Imagine the photo opportunities on the bow of the Ahi Lani, watching a dolphin bow riding or a humpback breaching.

Join us on this exciting and memorable adventure. Book a half day charter, or combine the whale and dolphin watch with an incredible snorkeling trip to Kaleakakua Bay, or a private beach, on a full day charter. Our charters are all inclusive, so all you need to bring are your sunglasses, sunscreen, and a camera!

The perfect family trip. Imagine cruisin' the calm Kona coast line, searching for whales and spinner dolphin, on your way to a private beach or Kaleakakua Bay. Having lunch, swimming or snorkeling in front of Captain Cook's monument, in one of the most pristine locations in Hawaii. Kona's crystal clear waters, provide excellent conditions for viewing our famous coral reefs and marine sanctuaries. One third of our marine life is endemic, observing these strange creatures first hand will make this trip one of your most memorable while in Hawaii. Our guides and onboard library make identifying all of your discoveries easy and interesting. In addition, if it is your first time snorkeling, we will be happy to assist you. A half-day charter is required for this trip, and remember, we are all-inclusive, so all you have to bring is your sunglasses, sunscreen, towel, and a camera.

I'd expect a post on ALASKA fishing services, surprised to see one for Hawaii. Have you fished with them yourself?

Hi there Michelle, thank you for the post!

'tis the wrong season (at least for me anyway) as far as Alaska Fishing. The best months here are June through August but it depends on what you like to catch. We will definitely post more on our 'at home' adventures in future posts.

You might be surprised at the amount of Alaskans that thaw out in Hawaii during the winter months. We have always heard good things from the folks we refer to them so please keep them in mind if you or your clients need a Kona adventure.

To answer your question, Larry and I have been out with Captain Brunner a couple of times in Kona as well as in Prince William Sound or, more specifically, Whittier Alaska.

Ryan wears several hats and always has something going on. In his spare time is also a contractor and builds a very nice home. We also refer him for construction when he visits us back in Wasilla.
