Help Fresno's Hungry Get $1M from Wal-Mart TODAY

Wal-Mart is putting $1.5M up to help six communities in the U.S. feed their hungry. The top vote-getter will receive $1M, and the other five will receive $100,000 each.

Nationwide, about 9.2% of Americans are classified as "hungry" daily - as in they cannot afford regular meals.

In Fresno, Calif., 24.1% are hungry daily - that's almost 25% of the population!

The top three communities right now are Salt Lake City, Utah; Fresno, Calif. and Columbia, South Carolina.

In comparison, as far as percentage of hungry,  Salt Lake City, Utah is at 18.1% (currently in the number one spot for votes), and Columbia, South Carolina is at 20.8% (in third).

Sure, I'd prefer to vote for San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara County, which is at #61. Although we have many needy, our rate is only 12.8%.

The Wal-Mart servers are very busy due to the 15 hours left on the countdown, so if you receive an error, "service not available" or "page not found" message, please keep trying. As teenager Jamie Cotton of Fresno posted on FaceBook, "We are ranked #4 as highest food hardships and SLC is #49, we are just a small town with far less people, we have a tent city where the homeless live on the streets, but most importantly the central valley is an agricultural community which feeds 80% of the worlds population, without us people would go hungry."

100 communities

The Food Research and Action Center has identified the food hardship rate for 100 largest communities in America*. To get involved, all you need to do is browse the selected communities and find the one that you think needs the money the most.

Log in to Facebook and "Like" that community. Your like will count as a vote for that community. The community with the most votes will receive $1 million. The next five most supported communities will each receive $100,000.

Spread the word

Once you've Liked a community, there's still more you can do. Share it with your friends. Get their support. You'll not only be helping out that town, you'll be raising awareness of the hunger problem in America.
