Last Christmas my wife and I had gotten our daughter who lives out West a stuffed lamb that she had mentioned to us she had seen in a store. She was on the road a lot and took her lamb with her as she traveled from city to city on business.
Sadly, she forgot it behind in a hotel room when she was traveling, so she lost her lamb. This year my wife and I tried to go get her a new one and the store no longer carried it.
So, my wife decided to make one herself. She not only made her a lamb, she also made her a companion donkey to go along with it. Here are the photos her making one of them, and the finished products.
Our daughter is in her 30's, but she loves very selective things like this, and my wife put extra care into making these very special. I wanted to write about this before Christmas, but I was afraid she would come across my blog online and spoil the surprise.
In recent years, as we have gotten older, we are not so much into buying expensive gifts in our family. We tend to be more practical, and prefer whenever possible to make gifts or only give ones with a very personal touch.
Partly this is due to being practical about holiday spending, but also we find that people enjoy and cherish special personal gifts if they are made by us.
So my wife and I make special salsa, eggnog, and other creations when we can. Of course my wife is a genius with sewing, so that also helps quite a bit too.
She is also a professional graphic artist too. Anyway, I know these photos are kind of silly, and homemade stuffed animals may not appeal to everyone, but I thought I would share these nonetheless.
I thought they turned out great, and suggested to my wife that she should take some custom orders if people wanted to pay her for it. Alas, she decided that no one would want to pay $100 for her time to make one, with the amount of time it took her, but she enjoyed making them as gifts. So we expressed mailed these two traveling companions to our daughter before Christmas, and they were a of course a huge hit! Another Christmas success story.
I hope everyone reading this has a prosperous and happy New Year!
