It was announced this week by officials of Mission Health System and Transylvania Regional Hospital that an agreement has been reached to affiliate Transylvania Regional Hospital with Mission Health System, Western North Carolina's largest health care provider. Mission is now the 5th largest in the State.
Founded in 1933, Transylvania Regional Hospital has recently undergone extensive renovation and expansion of its existing facility. As a Five-Star hospital, Transylvania Regional Hospital has offered quality health care to our area for many years. Its new affiliation with Mission Health System will offer expanded health care services for residents of Transylvania and surrounding counties. This move is extreemly positive and at press time it is expected to become effective January 1st 2011.
As quoted by Ronald Paulus: "The residents of Transylvania County can remain confident that our local hospital will thrive during the coming years," said Bob Bednarek, president and CEO of Transylvania Regional Hospital. "The focus of this agreement is to maintain, enhance and increase access to health services here locally.

Of the many health systems considered, Mission was the best fit to support us in maintaining, strengthening and growing local healthcare services in our community. Patients should notice little if any changes in the high-quality care at TRH that they have come to expect."
