How To Fire a Buyer if you need to!!!

We all at some point in our Real Estate Careers we have had to fire a buyer or seller.

Here are some ways it has been done!

  • Don't call them back!
  • Give them a crazy answer when they ask a crazy question and hope they go away.
  • Cancel showing appointments, hope they get the message.
  • Find an excuse, any excuse not to follow up with them.
  • Tell them politely,you are referring them to another agent.
  • Don't tell them you are referring them to another agent, but do it anyway.
  • Misplace their phone number,email etc.
  • Tell them the truth, why you cannot work with them.You're Fired

OK, I know what you are thinking, who would want to fire a buyer? Many of us know the answer. There are times when it just has to be done. Realtors have pride and ethics and a code to live by contrary to what many believe. Sometimes it just not worth it.

One agent told them she was not a taxi cab driver.  They had followed her to house number 1 and they joined her in her car.  After feeling like she was just a driver, she took them back to her office and told them to call a cab to get back to where their car was that took guts!

I've told buyers that we are not a good fit. This particular couple was listening to everyone but me, including complete strangers off the Internet. I told them that I work as  team with my clients and if they only want someone to unlock doors for them, they need to find someone else to work with. I didn't refer them to another agent because I couldn't imagine anyone I know wanting to work with them!
