New Year's Eve lunch at the Home Plate diner in Mesquite - - I met Arlene in 2007 - she and her husband Windy were looking for a new home. We spent some time together and found just the right home for them. During that process, we became good friends. Later we discovered that we share the same birthday! But we are both very busy and haven't been able to get together much this year. Finally we met this afternoon for lunch.
Arlene had never been to the Home Plate Diner - a fairly new restaurant in Mesquite. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Mesquite, so I got to treat her to a new experience. We really enjoyed the time together - as we left, we realized that we had been there for over 2 hours. The waiter was terrific, refilled our cokes as we took up his table and just visited.
The Home Plate Diner is a 50's style restaurant, with burgers and milkshakes, as well as a breakfast and dinner menu. My favorite is their sliders with onion rings. Today, we both had the Philidelphia Steak Sandwich with onion rings - excellent.
We got a kick out of the 50's decor - it really looks like an old time diner from the 1950's - not that either of us is old enough to remember those original places! The jukebox looks authentic, but plays CD's. Rock and Roll!
The Fonz would fit right in there, with Richie Cunningham sitting in a booth with the boys.
Great food, wonderful company - and I was glad to spend some special time on the last day of 2010 with my good friend Arlene. Happy New Year!
