Okay, so here is my not so original comment on New Year's Resolutions. And I don't think I will be the only one writing about resolutions today. Frankly, it is hard to avoid someone spouting about New Year's Resolutions on January First. The various forms of media have been littered with sound bites on New Year's Resolutions all day. It is on the web, blogs, the TV news, radio, news papers, etc. I will admit I did take the time to listen to some of it while I was out showing some condos earlier today. Eventually it became white noise.
What I find lacking in most of the discussion, is the fact that most people inevitably fail to adhere to their resolutions in a reasonably short period of time, and why this happens. So, if the odds say you won't stick to your resolutions for any considerable period of time, why make a resolution at all?
Here is a much simpler thought on New Year's Resolutions. Rather than try to make some wholesale changes in your life (be it business or personal, or both), try to do a few of the things you already do, and just do them better. Play to your strong hand, not dwell on your weakness. For instance on this site, if you are already here, blog, blog more, blog better, work on better content, work on using your blog to generate more business. You don't have to re-invent the wheel, you simply need to sharpen your game. Focus on some subtle changes that will make you better.
So there it is, I have offered my two cents on New Year's Resolutions, just like so many others today. However, I feel strongly that by this time next month you may still be adhering to my proposal! Everyone else who has a new twist on how to be skinner, more productive, and healthier...good luck in making the wholesale changes for the long haul, as history is stacked against you.
