So like many of you out there I am at home celebrating a New Year! 2010 flew by at a pace that I can only compare to a racehorse crossing the finish line.
Shortly after Thanksgiving we started to decorate our home with holiday cheer. Plastic Candy Canes down the walkway that are weaved in and out with lights, a Christmas tree in the family room decorated with all the ornaments it will hold, and various other items placed throughout the main areas of our home. In order for all of the "holiday" items to fit we always have to take down the stuff that is there the rest of the year.
Which brings me to my title out with the old and in with the ... old? This is the weekend that we generally start taking down all the holiday trinkets that we put up every year, and we replace them with the same things that were there before we started. What always gets me about it is how comforting it is to have things back to normal. That family picture that sits on the piano, or the blanket that hangs over the back of the couch. Something about it just feels right.
I guess what I am saying is that in a world of ever changing technology, where the cell phone I bought last week is old news, or the computer I'm working on right now is historic, is that its nice to sit back and realize that some of the things in my life are old, and perfect at the same time. I don't need them to change to work any more effeciently.
So as you start off the new year, whether your holiday items are in storage already or not, take just a moment to appreciate all the "old" things in your life that make it what it is.......yours!
