It's Over For Another Year!

*Whew* The last get together for the 2011 holiday season of the year was today and the Aunt and Uncle's house.

It's always a good time. Food, drink, presents for the little kids, etc. Fairly typical of holiday parties. One of the kids (mine) even got hurt. Happens every time. No big deal, just a little cut on her hand. A Hello Kitty band-aid and everything was back to normal.

After dinner (three types of lasagna!), my cousin asks me "What's the first thing I need to do to buy a house?" Of course, my immediate answer is "you just did it." meaning, talk to me. but as we talked a little, the first step After talking to me was the real question.

The first step in buying a house is to talk to a mortgage professional, and determine if you qualify for a mortgage, and if/when you do, to determine the type of mortgage program that fits your needs the best, how much money you'll need to come up with to purchase a house, and what price-range you can afford to start looking in.

Looking at homes that are in areas that you like, or homes that are out of your price-range, are NOT the best things to do when you first want to start looking for a home. It makes no sense to look at homes that you can not buy. It wastes your time, your real estate agents time, and the homeowners time.

I made sure she had my card before we all left for the evening, (you DO carry your card with you, right?), and I'll follow up with her and the mortgage professional in the next day or two. I'll either set her up on an automatic search from our MLS (multiple listing service) or she can go to my website, www.EricMichaelOnline.com , and do a local search of all the homes in the area.

Maybe I shouldn't be in such a hurry for the holiday season to be over?

Have a great day!

Eric...

Eric -  good for you . . .  I hope it pans out for you.  I have to admit I do not carry business cards any longer.  I do however, carry my phone and so do most other people I know.  We share our contact details by inserting them into our phones and make a date on the calander as to whom should call and when.   It works much better for me.

Howdy and morning to you Eric

Eric, its sure always a mighty fine time when family get together. Agents in my area won't even meet with to sit down and talk to a home buyer at all, unless they have been qualified for a home loan first.

I never go anywhere with out my business cards. I care one business card holder on me and I get one full in my little ole jeepy at all times.

Have a good one

Susan, I'm sure that works great in most circumstances, but I like to give out cards. I don't think that talking to someone in the supermarket for a minute or two is going to get them put your phone number directly into their cell. Plus, I have my email address and website on my card. If the situation works where I can just have them put my info into their phone, I will do it.

Andy, every time I think I've figured out every angle, more pop up. Gotta love it. Thanks.

Dale, I'll meet with them and talk about the process. Face time means a Lot to me. If they don't listen to my advice and they still want to look at homes before talking to the mortgage pro, that's where I draw the line.
