What Do You Do When No One's Watching?

Reblogger

I have written about this before. It is very important to have your home inspected if you are going to list your home on the market. Even if you do a home inspection the buyer will probably want one too, and should. You don't want there to be any surprises with the buyers inspection. See this blog below regarding things not easily seen by most home owners.

There's a saying that goes something like; A true measure of the quality of someone's work is the job they do when no ones watching. Those words ring especially true for me as a Connecticut home inspector. You see I go where most homeowners rarely if ever venture in their own homes, to deep dark attic nooks and damp crawl spaces. The only brave souls who venture to these places are me and contractors.

Missing insulationWhen we hire someone to a job we are incapable of doing ourselves for whatever the reason, we place trust in that person. Trust that they will accomplish the task as we would expect or even better than we could have foreseen.

When I see workmanship like shown in the attic of this home, I have to wonder about the installer's work ethic. The person or persons working up here knew full well the homeowner would probably never see their shoddy work. The ceiling insulation through out the attic had been pulled back in order to install the duct work for the new A/C system, but was never put back. This significantly reduces the insulation value of the entire attic. These folks have been paying higher utility bills due to someone's lack of integrity.

When a job is done right, the homeowner should never know that work had done. The home should look pretty much as it had before or better.
