Amazing Hailstorms

(Part 2 of the Why I love Laramie series)

Another thing I love about Laramie is that we have AMAZING hailstorms It may sound funny but by the time we get a hailstorm we know that summer is finally around the corner.  The storms come on fast and furious, shaking the whole house with the wind gusting and the hailstones pinging off the windows.  At our house, we are always drawn to an open door so we can hear the full fury of the storm.  Hail bounces everywhere, clogging the downspouts until the hail rolls off the roof and the water in the street gutters rapidly rises.  Then before you know it blue sky peeks through the edge of the storm as it rolls on to another location.

Hail

Hail Flowers

Whoops, we should have waited to plant those flowers!

Hail

Can you believe that sky!  Amazing!

    Brenda,

Wow, that really is amazing.  Hail storms are rare in our part of California, and when we lived up in Northern California, we had a fewl. We enjoyed your pictures.  All the best A

Very impressive pictures!  Don't you all get hail damage???  On the few occasions I've seen hailstorms here in the Hendersonville NC area since 1994 quite a bit of damage occurs.  Seems like that kind of hail could do some damage to roofs, crops, vehicles and if big enough windows.

But in your picture of the hail and tender looking posies the posies don't look hurt.

Ron and Alexandra - I can't imagine weather that isn't extreme - swinging from freezing cold to somewhat hot in a days time.  I say somewhat hot because our summertime highs hover in the high 80's.  I'd love California in the winter but I think the summers would be too toasty for me!

Hi Robin and Sue,  I know isn't it weird that we don't end up with more damage?  The largest hailstones usually peak at about large marble size and rarely do they dent cars or break windows.  And believe me, from what I see on the news around the U.S.A., we are very lucky.  In May of 2009 we had a hailstorm accompanied by a "tornado-like" burst and there was damage all over town - roofs blown off, holes in siding, broken windows, trees uprooted, etc.  But usually the typical summer storms are just fierce enough to get the adreneline rising and then they are over followed with rainbows and beautiful, lively skies!
