Bancrupticies increased in 2010 to 1.53 million, a 9% rise over 2009.

These are often filed in order to home onto a home, but often the real property is released from the bancruptcy in order to raise funds.

A Short Sale could alleviate the urge to file a bancruptcy by aggressively selling the property. Often banks realize the futility of pursuing a shortage, and the tax liability may be forgive under a Internal Revenue Service program.

Try a Short Sale first - it may save the sellers credit from having a bancruptcy or a foreclosure on it.

They stay on a credit report for 5 to 10 years, and prevent another home purchase for 3 to 5 years, minimum.
