Cool Online Tools- Be More Productive Faster!

If you are still using IE as a browser you are considered pretty old school in the online world. If you have a PC the only thing you need IE for is to get on the MLS.

You can have as many browsers as you want on your desktop of laptop. You can also have them all opened up at the same time. Many people don't know that.

If you are a mac user, like we are, then you obviously are not going to be using IE- unless you are using Parallels. But now we can get on MLS with our Macs with one click and not ever have to use IE again.

So the three browsers we recommend for faster and better productivity and a safer experience are:
  • Safari,
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

I wrote another post with a review of these three so that is not what this post is about.

Firefox has an unlimited amount of really cool FREE add ons and plug ins.

One of our favorite add-ons for Firefox is the PDF Converters. What these add-ones do makes your online research go so much faster. You can take any page you are reading on-line and turn it into a pdf file with just one click! From there, you can store the pdf on your hard drive, in your dropbox, on line anywhere. You can email the pdf to yourself or to a client or prospect.

You can take your own posts on your blog and turn them into pdf files with one click! You can then upload them to pdf sharing sites.

In Firefox, go to your tools at the top of your tool bar. Click on get add-ons. Type in PDF converters and you will get a list of options that open up into a new page on Firefox.

One that gets good reviews is: Web2PDF. This one is fast and then once your document is converted you can choose right there on the page to download the pdf file, to view it in Google docs or store and share it online- all with one click. This add-on also lets you put the URL of a website right into an address bar area and convert that site to pdf. Imagine the possibilities!

You can drag the tool right into your toolbar so you will have easy access to it right when you need it. This is what it looks like on your Firefox tool bar:

With Web2PDF add-on you can also order a pdf via email if you want to and then you can also add the pdf converter button to your blog or website so that you can make it a snap for your clients and subscribers to save your posts, articles and other files.

I use a number of browsers too, each one for different reason.  Wonderful post. suggested.

I too use different browsers for a different functions. My favorite is Chrome, I use Foxfire for blogging...the Scribefire App makes it a lot easier to change my text. But I still have to hold onto IE for the sites that aren't compatible with anything else.

Thanks for the tip on Web 2 PDF....I'm bookmarking to check it out this afternoon.

hey guys, I don't know about you but I am getting burnt out on Firefox. All those plug ins and addons are really slowing down the productivity of the browser. Just today I had to uninstall firebug just to get it to speed up. It worked but I think I am leaning more toward Safari for most of my future surfing.. (although all 4 browsers open on two screens can be fun!)

Katerina, you always have such wonderful information for all of us here in the Rain!!  I'm with you ~ firefox (especially scribefire) are my go to tools.  I chuckled on your commit that the only reason for IE is our MLS's!!!  So very very true!

Used Firefox when I first started with AR, but didn't install when I went with a new computer.  I guess I'll try it again, since you recommend it.  I only wanted it for my blogging, but it sounds like there are other benefits.

Thanks for the tip.  I switched to MAC in July and hate it most of the time.  MLS can't get on, can't upload from Mac, etc.  PDF's were a nightmare, used CUTEPDF on PC - couldn't find anything to do that on MAC.  Hate preview or perhaps I don't know how to use it.  I'm still trying.....

Nestor and Katerina:

I have firefox, safari and google chrome on my computer, but I find I only use firefox.  I think I am going to try the other two more often.  Which is the best of the 3 you mentioned or does it depend on what one is doing?  Have a nice Labor Day weekend.

Eveyln, Well, after using them all for a while, I must say that Chrome is the best. I love Safari- but I am biased towards Apple products. But truth be told, Chrome is the best. It is super fast and for SEO it is perfect.  Not all websites and platforms on the internet are able to work in Chrome. But when that happens, you just get a message that the site does not support your browser, and you can then change to Safari or Firefox. Katerina

Katerina, did not go over all the comments - so pardon me if this is a duplicate suggestion:

Just pressing ctrl+p on any web page and print the page with pseudo PDF printer (DoPDF, PDF995, NovePDFLite etc) also can create a PDF of a web page. One surely needs to have a PDF Printer installed on their computer - and this trick works irrespective of the browser.

And one more good browser is 'opera' (seems popular in India!)
