Bethel Island is more rural and the lots tend to be larger. Boaters have told me it is also easier to get out to all the marinas and things to do in the Delta. There are certainly not as many Deep Water Dock Homes in Bethel Island but the prices are lower and the slower pace and country living have a nice appeal to people.
Bethel Island is not far from Oakley and the major Travel routes through East Contra Costa County, at the same time the country feel, local golf, fishing, boating, and swimming will have you feeling like you are on permanent vacation.
East Contra Costa County has one of the highest rates of Boat Ownership in the USA so it is no surprise that you will find a number of homes with deep water docks. There is lots of fine fishing in Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers (That come together here in the delta) as well as water skiing. So if you want a Deep Water Dock and an affordable price think Bethel Island.
