Ashburn VA, Belmont Coutry Club Kicked Hilton's As* New Year's Eve

Pink squiggly lines that look like fireworks My lady and I decided to ring-in 2011 at an exciting New Year's Eve shindig at Belmont Country Clubin Ashburn VA.  It was a perfect pairing of food and drink coupled with sensational ballroom and freestyle dancing which owned our bodies on more than one occasion!

Belmont Country Club did an outstanding job setting-up the party with three different themes of food and dance to satiate everyone's appetite (young & old):

1st Miami Theme - Latin Style Music (love to salsa) with Seared Yellow Fin Tuna and Oysters

2nd Chicago Theme - Jazz Music with Sautéed Shrimp and Italian Sausage

3rd New York City Theme - Top 40 and Club Music with Roasted NY Strip Beef

The night was filled with great food and conversation while occasionally cutting the rug. Oh, and of course, there were the traditional noise makers and party hats for those of us willing to indulge in a little craziness.

In the past we have attended HUGE sponsored productions at ritzy hotels, and I must say we preferred our quaint party at Belmont County Club or would have just stayed at home rather than attend the big and expensive productions.

Note to self (and you theSilver Happy new year hat reader): Learn from one's mistakes -- last New Year's Eve, unlike Belmont Country Clubin Ashburn, VA, the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. hosted a New Year's Eve celebration with 3000 intoxicated strangers congregating at their hotel. It sounded awesome when I purchased the over-priced ticket, but I quickly realized the price of admission was not worth all the hype.

After arriving, we waited 20 minutes to pass through security and pick up our tickets from Will Call, okay the hotel DID have beautiful decorations to stare at while you waited, but again, not worth the 20 minute wait.

Next with lucky ticket in hand, we proceeded down the escalators to the drunken dungeon (1st floor) of debauchery, where we found guys stumbling around constantly bumping into us (yeah that's fun), and young girls scantily dressed yearning to capture the alluring eyes of young men passing by.

Needless to say, it was difficult to have an intelligible conversation with the other attendees since they were not very conscience. I'm all for having a good time, but hey kids, let's remember to stay sober enough to walk & talk!

The take-away from this story: I truly believe that a genuine good time is had at a local and more intimate gathering with friends/family instead of the random drunk-fest.  And the other option is avoiding the potentially dangerous streets of New Year's Eve's drunk drivers and snuggling at home with your loved one(s) watching a good movie just before the ball drops at midnight.

Purple and pink fireworks over a dock and water

I hope you enjoyed your New Year's Eve as much as I did -- I'd love to hear how you rang in 2011, share your story!
