Loose Lips Sink Ships,

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty Chesterfield

Loose Lips Sink Ships,

I have heard the adage Loose Lips Sink Ships all of my life.  I have tried to live by it as much as possible.Loose Lips Sink Ships  I am not going to say that I have a perfect track record when it comes to holding my tongue at times.

Today I went into a chicken restaurant in St. Charles, MO and was the first one in the store.  You know where this is going don't you?  When I entered the restaurant there were 2 employees, on the clock, and 1 other employee, out of uniform, probably off standing in the dining area sinking ships.  They were suffering severely from Loose Lips syndrome and they were not quiet about it either.  In other words they were sinking a ship right in front of me and made no bones about it.

Loose Lips Sink ShipsThese loose lips were truly sinking a ship.  This little episode, starting me thinking, about how and where we as real estate professionals suffer from Loose Lips Sinking Ships syndrome.  Are we in the lobby of our office?  Are we out to eat with others in the business?  Are we less than soft spoken when talking about other agents or past clients?  Look around at the future business that you could be losing or the negative impression that you are giving that possible future business.

Look around.......Loose Lips Sink Ships

This expression came about during World War II, I believe. When excessive chatter was being monitored. Also in submarine warfare, when a single sound could reveal the submerged subs location.  But your point about bad mouthing other professioanls, or businesses is a good one.

Fernando,

Just like around the water cooler in the office only on a broader scope.  Better be careful someone could be reading.

Don - You never know who might hear what is being discussed in a public place. Shhhhhhh. Best to just smile with those lips rather than sink a ship.

Judy,

The best policy as you say is Shhhhhh.  We also need to be aware of those around us and be courteous to them.

Don I think this happens a lot in Real Estate. Sometimes it is better to keep those lips tight:)

Good post.  Too many times have I heard someone spewing stuff around the office that I sure hope they were not saying in earshot of a client.

Don, I have seen agents cut their own throats because they can't keep the comments to themselves or NOT comment on thenegative stuff a client says.
