Blue is Green, and Sometimes Green is Blue | Eco-friendly Home Construction in Carlsbad CA

Blue is Green, and Sometimes Green is Blue

I'm not color-blind, although perhaps your thought is just that from the title.

But blue IS green and sometimes green is really blue.

Eco-friendly Environmental construction in Carlsbad homesWe're talking environmental stuff here, and in particular the wood framing for some houses springing up around San Diego, including Carlsbad

What is a blue house is really a green house.

Eco-friendly, good for the environment. And good for reducing the incidence of those nasty termites, fungus, and mold.

This particular home is being built about a mile from my Carlsbad home.

It's called BluWood, developed by Woodsmart Solutions, Inc. in Boca Raton FL, and a number of homes have been built in the San Diego area using this fairly new wood  product. The cost is greater on average, but when one balances increased lumber costs against the potential cost of termite damage alone, it makes a lot of sense.

And it seems to be catching on.

The local distributor/licensee is EcoBlueProducts, Inc. in Vista, CA. BluWood is coated with a non-toxic, eco-friendly substance that protects again mold, rot/decay, termites and value added fire. And a wide range of wood products are available for residential and commercial use. Right now BlluWood seems to be use only in custom homes, but my guess is we will see production builders getting on board in some communities.

Hi Jeff, a very informative topic. I have heard of it but I haven't see it used as yet around here. Termite proof wood sounds like a great product. Blue is Green!

William - I know of several homes that were built, one in Del Mar (currently on the market in the $6M range I think).

Steve - it's impressive to see from a distance. The creator likes blue.

The color definitely stands out during that phase of the construction and probably causes a lot of people to inquire what it's all about.

Big Blue would be popular in my area. We have two types of homes...those that have been treated for termites and those that are going to be treated.

Do you remember FRT plywood?

Hi, Jeff - interesting that this is from Florida, and yet I haven't seen it here in St. Pete.  Well, we do follow along after California.

Look forward to seeing you at Sellabration this year!

Jeff - I had never heard of this before and live in Florida! Anything that can reduce incidents involving termites and mold or fungus is worth the increased price over regular wood. Thanks for letting us know about this product!
