January events to remember in Katy, Texas: Charity and preschool registration
Just because the holidays over, doesn't mean the charitable contributions need to stop. This month carry on your charitable efforts and help those in need with a coat drive at the Katy, Texas VFW Coat Drive for Homeless Veterans, now through Jan. 15 at the Copperfield Estates Retirement Community, 16820 West Rd. Through Jan. 15, 2011, Katy, Texas VFW is partnering with Copperfield Estates Retirement Community to collect winter coats for the DeGeorge House Shelter for Homeless Veterans. Donations can be dropped off at Copperfield Estates. At 10 a.m. on Jan. 15, residents of Copperfield Estates will hold an informational seminar on Veterans' Aid and Attendance benefit for wartime veterans and their spouses. After the seminar, the coats will be presented to a representative from the DeGeorge House.
Bass Pro Shops has some great workshops coming up beginning in January for those interested in Fly Fishing and Camping. ARTreach's popular Texas Music Project will move to Fridays at the Villagio Town Center in Cinco Ranch. The Texas Music Project works with local artists and musicians and ARTreach volunteers offer free art activities at each event to enlighten and entertain children. It's Girls Scout Cookie time! This month marks the beginning of Girl Scout cookie sales. Don't be surprised to find a girl scout at your favorite Katy, Texas Wal-Mart store selling one of these delicious varieties Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot, Caramel deLites, Lemonades, and Shout Outs for $3.50 a box. This is the largest fund raising event for the Girl Scouts organization and the most important for them to continue their efforts and special programs.
January in Katy, Texas also means planning ahead, for the next fall, especially if you have preschool aged children. Many schools begin their registration process this month and spots fill quickly. Even more preschool help can be found this month at the 8th Annual Preschool Fair on Jan. 22 at the Crosspoint Community Church, 700 S. Westgreen Blvd. from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The MOMS Club of Katy, Texas - SE will host their 8th Annual Preschool Fair for parents in Katy, Texas. Parents looking for preschools or Mother's Day Out programs in the area will find information from a variety of organizations and school in the Katy, Texas area. Talk directly to teachers and directors, pick up program and pricing information and learn more about the preschools in our area. Attendees are asked to bring baby supply donations, which will benefit the Pregnancy, Help Center of Katy, Texas. Admission is free.
