Today is Twelfth Day. But, what does that mean? In Western Europe, they believed that the holiest day of the year was December 25th (signifying the birth of Christ). However, in Eastern Europe, they believed that the holiest day of the year was January 6th (signifying the "epiphany", when the three wise men first appeared). Christians couldn't agree on which day was the holiest. In 557 AD, they decided to celebrate all 12 days between December 25th and January 6th as "holy days", which became "holidays". That's the 12 Days of Christmas, making today, January 6th, Twelfth Day.
