Reports saying how hard it is to buy a house now have people scared into calling and looking for either rent-to-own or lease. Everyone is sure that they can't buy a house because the news says so. We have been getting tons and tons of phone calls asking if we have rentals available.
Today I was sitting and talking to a fellow agent and he said he was putting together homes to lease for a floor call that was stopping by to pick them up. I said why isn't she buying? He says I don't know she called in looking for a rental. I said oh and went back to what I was doing. When the floor call came in to pick up the listings I happen to be up front and noticed that the person was driving a nice vehicle and came in with a couple kids. When she walked out the door I said well did you find out why she isn't buying he said I don't know she wants to move down south somewhere. I finally convinced him while she was strapping in her kids in the car to go out and ask her. She stated that she wouldn't know where to even start to buy a house so she was afraid to.
I have a great relationship with this other agent as he had me standing outside with him and I explained to her that is what a real estate agent is for is to help them through the process. I also explained to her about USDA loans and that because of the location that you are looking in, that area is eligible. In the mean time the other agent ran in and got her a couple loan officers phone number and instructed her how to start the process.
If someone is calling on a rental shouldn't the first question be why aren't you thinking about buying when interest rates are so low?
