What's wrong in this Winchester KY Home Inspections Picture?

The picture below was taken during one of my recent Winchester, Kentucky home inspections.

Uninsulated attic hatch, Erby - The Central Kentucky Home Inspector

The attic hatch, just a piece of sheetrock, is in the upstairs hallway.  Remember that heat rises right up to that second floor ceiling.  Insulation helps hold it in the living space of the house.  No insulation on the attic hatch lets quite a bit of heat out of the house and raises your energy bill.

The simple solution:  A piece of insulation, relatively cheaply purchased at your local big box home improvement store, glued to the top side of the sheetrock hatch, reduces heat loss and your energy bill.

Is your attic hatch insulated?

I think the current owners are a little angry about the thorough inspection you did. They didn't have one done and it cost them $18K.  I, my loan officer and my agent think a home inspection is well worth what I paid.

Thank You for the outstanding job you did on the inspection.  We bought and sold 9 houses and this was the only inspection that was ever done properly.  It was helpful and we will use it to do the repairs with a system, instead of the guess work we usually do.  Thanks again

Great reminder, Erby. I am amazed at how often the attic hatch isn't insulated. If homeowners could see what was going on with a thermal camera, they'd get some insulation in there in a hurry.

Don't need a thermal camera to know that's wrong, Jason.  Perhaps the localism post will help educate them.
