Coaches: Are they worth it?

By
Real Estate Agent with CENTURY 21 All Islands

I just want to ask the community for their input on Real Estate Coaches. I mean the ones who charge the big bucks, promising to move your production into the Major Leagues. From what I have seen, they tie you up in a contract, say around $1,000/ month, then have some guy or gal call you up once a week. Next thing you know, miracles are supposed to happen.

There is also the "money back guarantee" which I interpret to mean, "If you can stand on one ear while blindfolded, simultaneously sing the Star Bangled Banner while drinking a glass of water through a straw, and crack the combination of a Brinks vault with your hands tied behind your back, and you don't get the results, you get your money back"

Anyone care to share any personal experiences, pro or con? I would appreciate any input.

I've got one of those.  She gets on my back all the time about production.  The more she rides me, the more money I make.  I call her my wife.  If you want, I can have her call you once a week for less than $1000 a month.  I'm not kidding.  Why are you laughing?

I'm a collections agent not a coach. If I were a coach I'd be a lot more expensive. Don't most of the coaches live in ocean front villas and travel the world, making their money just by sitting in front of the computer for ten minutes a day. That's what I'll the emails I get asking me to pay them say anyway. But I am happy to put my nagging, money collections habits to use for others. Do you think this is a new business line??

Rich and Melissa,

Thanks for the responses. I think I will hold onto the $1,000 for now. I don't have a wife to nag, I mean motivate me, but a girlfriend who is just as expensive, though not as productive.

Really, I do not think that you should pay someone that much to make sure you keep up on your calls and marketing.  That is about all they do.  Tip here and there, but primarily nag you into production.

Rich and I are probably jaded though, of the two guru's that we know, one appears to be a complete con man, who has defaulted on at least one purchase that we know of because he couldn't flip it and didn't have the money to close and the other has been driving a wrecked car for the last 6 months because he can't afford to fix it, has a wife that works full time even though she doesn't want to to pay the bills, and has vendors calling us because we know him to see if he is still alive since he hasn't paid their invoices. Oh and did I mention the tax liens.. As you can see we aren't fans of the guru coaching industry. That being said, a mentor can be an great thing. There is just a huge difference between the two.

Are you sure you don't want a nag, I mean motivation coach. I'll even cut the fee. Today only, internet special.... $499. See I'm already making you money. =)

Wow! That is hilarious! How can that guy even think of himself as a coach? It seems that there are getting to be more people holding out their hand and promising that they know the secret to getting on top as the market changes. I attended a function that my Brokerage company sponsored, had a coach who claims he drives a Bentley, flies around in Lears and Gulfstreams, yada yada yada. The message was subliminal, that we could be doing that to, if we just gave him the $1,000 and wait by the phone once a week. Thank you sincerely for sharing this information. Is anybody else out there listening?

Isn't it amazing what people will buy into. I'm a huge  proponent of the American Dream but you need to be based in reality at least a little bit. What amazes me the most is the gurus claiming that they are making so much money with these techniques, yet they are more than willing to sell the formula for a fee. If it really worked that well, would someone really want to be selling the idea to potential competitors? I mean you don't see Coke selling their formulas to Pepsi. Yet I can buy the next greatest receipe for real estate sucess for $999. I hope people are listening, otherwise the market is going to continue to get worse as these investors make uneducated investments

the agents i know who are using coaches all say the same thing...don't expect any revelations and don't do it if you're not willing to do exactly what they say. and they're going to tell you to implement systems (they don't do it, just tell YOU to), and call your past clients.  you already know these things, so feel free to send me a check any time. =)

Hey Mike,  I will do it for $750/ month and throw in an occassional lunch meeting.

I also offer a discount plan.  For $500/ month I call and insult you once a week.  I also tell you to work harder and send me next months check.
